# How to moderate the entries of users?

Through the moderation module of your Bpart platform you manage your online debate: you moderate comments and entries from users or participants. This article is specifically about moderating entries; [read all about the full moderation module here.](https://support.bpart.eu/en/article/moderating-your-online-debate-on-bpart-z4z074/)

Moderating itself works similarly in **pre- and post-moderation**. The difference lies in the **starting status** of a new entry.

### Starting point: status of a new entry

Behind the scenes, every entry has two kinds of labels:

* **Visibility:** publicly visible or not visible on your participation platform
* **Moderation status:** moderated or not moderated

A newly submitted entry is always **not moderated**, so that it appears in your "to moderate" overview. Whether it is also immediately publicly **visible** depends on your moderation mode:

* **Pre-moderation:** every new entry is *not visible* and *not moderated*. So it doesn't appear on the platform right away and waits for your approval.
* **Post-moderation:** a non-toxic entry is immediately *visible* and *not moderated* (so it's already online, but still waiting for your review). An entry flagged by AI as potentially inappropriate is *not visible* and *not moderated*: it's held back until you review it.

In both cases the entry appears in your "to moderate" overview (oldest first): this is the default screen of your moderation module. Use the filters at the top of the screen to adjust this view and find other entries. You can filter on visibility, moderation status, tags, topics or keywords (author, id or content).

### Step 1: review

Read the entry and decide what to do with it. The actions are **identical in pre- and post-moderation**. You can take four actions:

1. Edit the entry (correct typos or spelling, add punctuation...)
2. Move the entry to another topic (read more: [How can you move an entry to another topic?](https://support.bpart.eu/en/article/how-to-change-the-topic-of-an-entry-1sssb1e/))
3. Publish the entry (approve for publication)
4. Confirm that the entry should remain unpublished (reject for publication)

> In post-moderation, an entry may already be online. You still keep control: you can take it offline after all, or confirm that it can stay online.

### Step 2: analysis

Prepare your project analysis while moderating. You can do several things here:

1. Add one or more **tags** (select from existing tags, or type to create a new one): visible to managers only
2. Take **moderation notes**: thoughts for later, interesting parts or quotes from the entry...
3. Add an **attachment** (supporting documents, internal feedback e-mails...)
4. Assign a **status** to the entry (for example "under consideration" or "accepted"): visible to managers and visitors of your participation platform

The information on the analysis screen is internal and not publicly visible (except for a status you make visible to participants).

> A separate, more detailed article about using **statuses and tags** for your analysis will follow soon.

### Step 3: e-mail notification

Inform the participant about the status of the entry:

1. Choose an e-mail template (also read: [How do I adjust the automatic e-mails?](https://support.bpart.eu/en/article/manage-and-edit-moderation-email-templates-6149z6/)) or start from a blank e-mail
2. Finalise the e-mail (templates are editable)
3. Send the e-mail
4. After sending, your e-mail history appears, which you can also consult ("mail history")
